Predetermined Anesthetic WorkSheet (PAWS) S.O.P.
The 2020 AAHA anesthesia guidelines state, “Although each patient should be treated as an individual, having a set of anesthesia plans that are used repeatedly is appropriate. This allows the anesthesia team a level of comfort with their anesthesia protocols while adjusting plans based on individual patient needs.”
The PAWS SOP sets out to help create this set of anesthesia plans. The more familiarity an individual is with a protocol and knows generally what to expect, the more safe the anesthesia.
Implementing this S.O.P. can help to:
Expedite procedures for patients requiring general anesthesia
Ensure safe and effective protocols when the clinic welcomes and trains new staff or interns
Provide perioperative multi-modal pain management and anxiolysis
Give special consideration to brachycephalic patients
Help create familiarity with medication combinations
Software requirements: Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
Tested on Word version 16.97 and Acrobat version 2025.001.20476
